You know it’s going to be something special when they close the street down.
It’s July 2017 and the age of partying in an underground club is behind us. Yes, you can’t argue that some of the most memorable nights of your life have probably been created two storeys below street level at 2:00AM in the morning. But who say’s that’s where the party needs to be? It doesn’t even have to be constrained to the water-logged fields of Hertfordshire anymore.
Who says it can’t be four streets down from Liverpool Street station on a sunny Saturday afternoon?
Because that’s exactly what Guy Gerber had in store when he delivered his infamous ‘‘RUMOURS’ party to London.
For those of you who don’t know Guy (shame on you), we’ll bring you up to speed. Underground Techno DJ, check. Debut album released on Sven Vath’s Cocoon label, tick. 12 hour set at Burning Man, done. Played for the Israeli Under-16 national football team, bingo. Released an album with P Diddy, absolutely. Residency at Pacha, completed it. If that doesn’t paint a colourful portrait of the man, I don’t know what will.
With these accolades tucked neatly under his belt, Guy at heart is a live performer. Whether it be through his love of samples, synths and drum machines at live shows, or his dedication to keeping lineups a secret right up until the event begins, Guy moves with an air of showmanship behind the decks to really captivate the crowd.
London had the pleasure of welcoming Guy’s ‘RUMORS’ party to Shoreditch on Saturday July 8th, accompanied by an enticing blend of support DJ’s and live acts. The packed out party saw dOP (Live), Bill Patrick, Acid Mondays and Bas Ibellini work the crowd into an energy infused frenzy.
Delivering a hedonistic blend of minimal techno, vibrant disco and mesmerising house, Guy and the rest of the Rumours gang brought the Ibiza vibe straight into the heart of the UK.
Want to see the kind of vibe Guy Gerber delivers? Check out his set from Mixmag In The Lab in Ibiza:
In an era where clubs are closing across the country and the uncertainty of well established festivals hangs in the balance, parties like Rumours breathe a breath of fresh air into live events. They highlight the core principles of what makes events a success, the music. No matter where they take place, if the crowd are willing to dance and the DJ is willing to deliver, the party can quite literally be on a street between two office blocks.
If you were unfortunate enough to miss this sold out event, fear not, because Guy is back in London in September with a headline show. Heading to the Roundhouse in Camden, Guy Gerber will be treating fans to a night of energy, fun and celebration as part of a one-off weekend of events taking place at The Roundhouse.
